I don’t want choosing a location to be a point of stress for you. I want my sessions to be a relaxed and fun experience. Because of this, I wanted to share a few tips on how to pick the best location for you and your family.

How to Choose Your Photo Shoot Location

There are a few things to think about when choose a location for your family session on your property.  First of all, think about locations that have genuine meaning to your family.  Special locations that the family has a connection too, will often bring about a relaxed natural feel from the very beginning of our session, as it is a “happy place”.

The next thing I like to look for, is open landscapes to the west.  Due to the nature of my photography, I love to use the gorgeous golden light from the sun setting in the west in my imagery.  So, ensuring that we can see the sun is an important factor in creating the images that I am so well known for.  Other great things to incorporate for interest are old gates and gateways, dirt tracks and areas with some trees.

When choosing your location, it’s good to keep in mind if you have large hills, mountains or heavy bank of trees to the West of your chosen location, as these can cause us to lose light earlier than we were planning on.  If this is the case, may look at moving the location slightly or possibly shooting a fraction earlier than was originally planned, but I will talk you through this!

If you have any question on choosing your location, or would like to send some sample photos through, please feel free to do so!
